From March 11 to 13, 2025, the IRTG Meta-Active held its 4th Annual Meeting – this time hosted at the Australian National University (ANU) in Canberra. As a vibrant collaboration between researchers at the University of Jena and ANU, the annual meeting continues to be a cornerstone of scientific exchange and community building within the program.

This year’s event brought together doctoral candidates and postdoctoral researchers to present their ongoing projects and collaborative work within the IRTG. A group of eight doctoral candidates from Jena attended the meeting in person, most of whom are currently conducting their research visits at ANU. Their contributions, alongside those of their Australian peers, highlighted the depth and diversity of research within the program – ranging from fundamental physics to applied photonics.

For those unable to make the long journey to Australia, a local satellite meet-up was organized in Jena. Here, researchers gathered to follow the talks and present their work in company, ensuring that the entire IRTG community could participate and contribute, regardless of location.

In addition to the engaging scientific sessions, the program featured inspiring lectures from two principal investigators and a social excursion to the Australian National Botanical Garden – a perfect setting to exchange ideas and enjoy the beauty of the local environment.

Beyond the academic program, the meeting also provided an important platform for strategic discussions among the PIs and speakers. These talks focused on future collaborative projects and planning for the upcoming renewal proposal of the IRTG.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone involved – presenters, organizers, and attendees alike – for making this meeting a true success. We look forward to many more opportunities to collaborate, connect, and push the boundaries of photonics research together.
