On Thursday, 11 April, during the SPIE Photonics Europe conference, the International Research Training Group Meta-Active hosted a lunch meeting focused on career development and networking. The event provided a valuable platform for our Meta-Active doctoral candidates to engage with established professionals in the field of photonics.

The meeting featured presentations from several esteemed invited speakers. Dr. Sarah Walden from Griffith University, Australia, shared insights from her career, offering practical advice and discussing her experiences in the field. Prof. Kathy Lüdge from TU Ilmenau, Germany, and Dr. Humeyra Caglayan from Tampere University, Finland, also contributed by discussing their professional journeys and providing diverse perspectives on career paths in photonics.

The primary objective of the meeting was to facilitate career development and networking opportunities for Meta-Active doctoral candidates. The speakers addressed various aspects of their careers, providing attendees with a broad view of potential career trajectories in both academia and industry.

The informal setting encouraged open dialogue and interactive discussions, allowing participants to ask questions and seek advice directly from the speakers. This engagement was instrumental in helping the doctoral candidates build their professional networks and gain insights that could shape their future careers.
